Team Fat Kid

Cheat Day Heavy
Types of food/treats sold:
Cheat Day Heavy. We specialize in over the top comfort food including deep fried treats like crispy pork or funnel cake battered desserts as well as an original burger blend that uses ribeye and bacon.

Where are you based and what cities are you permitted?
We are based out of Virginia Beach and are able to work in Virginia Beach and Chesapeake with goals to reach the full 757 soon.

What separates your food truck from the rest?
We are the cheat day truck. We carry the items that people want all the time but cant find. The over the top nature means that if you can find it we will take it to the next level in any way we can.
What did you do before you owned a food truck?
We have all been working in restaurants for years with over 35+ years of experience. In more recent years we have also started a food channel on Social Media to make some over the top creations.

What do you like most about having a food truck?
After years of working for other restaurants and owners and having to conform to other recipes we are finally allowed to make what we want and how we want to do it. We can change our menu quickly when needed. We can switch our desserts; in particular our deep fried little Debbie, whenever we feel like it. The variety helps keeps things fresh.

Where did the name of your food truck come from?
We started as a group of chefs cooking on the weekends and having a communal dinner at the end of the night, possibly around a fire if the weather is good. One night while we were all together and chowing down there was a remark that Jason ate like he had a 300 lb fat kid inside of him. After that Team Fat Kid began. The jokes of hollow legs and bottomless stomachs has gone on forever but it is simply of love of good food that drives us.

Why did you decide to join HRFTA?
As a new truck to the area and the industry it is always good to learn all you can from those that have come before. We may know food and the restaurant business but the Food Truck game is new.

Why did you decide to open a food truck/get into the food truck business?
Passion. We chased a dream and although we still consider a restaurant to this day, we wanted to bring our food to the people. This was the opportunity we had available and we were happy to try it. We already had some experience on a food truck from our time on the Great Food Truck Race Season 12 on the Food Network and it helped when we opened our own.
